Juliana Rios: A Battle Through Breast Cancer

In the heart of Marshall County resides a remarkable woman named Juliana Rios. At 42 years old, this resilient mother of three has been waging a relentless battle against breast cancer since her diagnosis in May 2023.

Juliana, originally from Mexico, has called Marshall County her home for the past 19 years. Her life took a sudden and unexpected turn when she received a Stage 1 breast cancer diagnosis in May 2023. Her journey began long before that, though, as she diligently started getting mammograms, a decision that would prove to be life-changing.

"I started getting mammograms when I was 40," Juliana said. "They found something on my left breast, and I had it removed in 2021. Then in 2023, I noticed a knot in my right breast, and knew I needed to get it checked out."

That routine checkup would reveal a new challenge, forcing Juliana into the world of cancer treatment.

"When you hear the word 'cancer,' you automatically think, 'Oh my God, I'm going to die,'" Juliana said.

But she soon found solace in the compassionate care of Dr. Storey, at the Marshall Cancer Care Center, who approached her diagnosis with unwavering positivity.

Juliana has already completed her grueling rounds of chemotherapy and has embarked on a new phase of treatment—radiation therapy.

Throughout her journey, Juliana has discovered the true meaning of friendship and the strength of her family.

"When you get diagnosed with cancer, you really find out who your friends are," she says, highlighting the invaluable support system that surrounds her.

Juliana's family, both in Marshall County and in Mexico, has been her rock during these challenging times.

"My family has been really supportive during this process," she said. "Cancer really gets you depressed, so having my family has meant a lot to me."

Her words of encouragement for those facing a similar battle are filled with wisdom and determination.

"Keep going,” she said. “I know it's not easy, but you have to keep going. I keep going for me and my family. Cancer is so depressing, but life is so precious.”

The mental and physical toll of cancer is undeniable, yet Juliana's spirit remains unbroken. She continues to exemplify resilience and courage with each step of her journey.

At 42 years old, Juliana is not alone in her battle. She is surrounded by a vast support system of family and friends who uplift her during her darkest moments and drawing strength from her faith.

"We have to trust in God and be close to God during this journey, she said. “He will get us through this.”

As she continues to navigate the challenges that lie ahead, Juliana remains steadfast, guided by her faith and the love of her family. Her story is a testament to the power of hope, determination and the unwavering support of those who stand by her side. Behind every pink ribbon, there are real-life warriors, like Juliana, fighting tenaciously against breast cancer.
