Hospital volunteers recognized

Marshall Medical Centers celebrated some of its most valuable workers during Volunteer Appreciation month in April. With 130 volunteers working in its two hospitals and in the Marshall Cancer Care Center, the health system really owes a lot to this labor force.

To be exact, the volunteers would have earned almost $600,000 in wages during 2025 based on the Independent Sector’s value set at $30.59 per hour. Volunteers worked a whopping 19,566 hours last year.

Not only do volunteers stay busy helping patients, visitors and employees, they also spend a lot of time raising money. Last year, the two Auxiliaries at North and South re-invested $15,875 back into facilities, including the purchase of two wheelchairs for the Cancer Care Center, two treatment beds for Marshall South’s pre-admission testing department and new equipment for Marshall North’s Wellness Center.

Volunteers were invited to a luncheon at the Guntersville State Park’s Grandview Ballroom where they were entertained by The Ukesters, a local ukulele band. Marshall Health System President Chris Rush expressed the immense gratitude for everything the volunteers do. Volunteers make a significant contribution to the success of Marshall Medical, he said.
