Program Overview

At full complement, our program will be a 6-6-6 residency, offering a comprehensive and supportive training experience in the heart of Marshall County, Alabama. Our community is located just minutes from Lake Guntersville and Lake Guntersville State Park, providing a unique blend of natural beauty and small-town charm, while remaining within easy reach of Huntsville, Birmingham, and Chattanooga.

Our continuity clinic is conveniently located on the ground floor of our primary training site, Marshall Medical Center South, fostering seamless integration between inpatient and outpatient care. Residents will also train at Marshall Medical Center North, gaining experience across diverse clinical settings throughout their three years.

Training Experience

Our program is designed to develop well-rounded, competent and confident family physicians who are prepared to practice in a variety of settings. Highlights of the training experience include:

  • Full-spectrum family medicine with opportunities in outpatient, inpatient, and community-based care of all ages
  • A close-knit, supportive environment where residents, faculty and staff quickly become like family
  • Community engagement integrated into the curriculum, with additional opportunities to participate in local events and outreach
  • A longitudinal Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum, with hands-on training in clinic, inpatient, and procedural settings to enhance diagnostic accuracy and procedural skills
  • Optional sideline sports coverage for local high school athletics
  • Opportunities to pursue advanced obstetric training with the goal of achieving competency for independent practice
  • Access to a forthcoming Emergency Medicine fellowship year for those interested in expanding acute care skills

Our Mission

To train exceptional family physicians who provide comprehensive, relationship-centered care with excellence, compassion, and deep connection to rural communities. Anchoring our training in evidence-based practices, we develop skilled clinicians who will lead with purpose, champion health equity, and strengthen rural health systems for generations to come.

Our Vision

To create thriving rural communities sustained by a strong network of family physicians who lead with integrity, cultural humility, and unwavering commitment to the people they serve. Our residency will be a catalyst for transforming rural health — a place where clinicians, educators, and communities work side by side to improve access to healthcare, elevate the quality of care, and secure a healthier future for all.

If you are looking for a residency program where you can receive excellent training while becoming part of a community that truly values you, we would love to connect with you!
