A water feature designating Marshall Medical Centers’ mid-county campus as the Gary R. Gore Medical Complex has been unveiled. The display honors the longtime CEO who retired last April after 30 years.
Gore, a native of Albertville, led Marshall Medical Centers as both administrator and Chief Executive Officer through advances and upheavals in the healthcare industry. He came on board in 1989 when Marshall Medical Center North was being built, and by 2020 was CEO over the organization which had grown to include not only Marshall South, but also:
The Gary R. Gore Medical Complex consists of the Marshall Cancer Care Center and the Marshall Professional Center. Constructed in 2013, the 22,000 square foot facility is an associate of the UAB Health System Cancer Community Network.
Traci Stewart, executive director of the Marshall Cancer Care Center, said there is no better name for the mid-county campus. Gore spent his career bringing the once-separately functioning hospitals together and this complex sits centered between the two campuses of Marshall Medical Center North and South.
“The new name is symbolic of Mr. Gore’s dedication and commitment to grow and support the two hospitals and many locations in between,” she said. “It is an honor to have worked with a man who leaves such an indelible mark on not only the hospitals, but Marshall County. His years of passion and vision to enhance health care in our county yields an impressive legacy. Mr. Gore is a deserving, humble man who would never self-apply his name to any structure, but it is with pride that the community he long served gets to do so. It is with honor that our complex bears his name.”
Marshall Professional Center houses clinics and physician offices including the Sleep Disorders Center, the Wound Healing Center, Marshall Imaging, Marshall Rheumatology and Northeast Alabama Vascular and Vein Specialist.
After graduating from Albertville High School in 1978 and attending Snead State Community College, Gore earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Healthcare Management from The University of Alabama and a Master of Science degree in Hospital and Health Administration from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
His first job in healthcare was serving as vice president of South Highlands Hospital (now UAB Highlands) in Birmingham. In 2002, he was named Marshall Medical Centers’ first CEO. In 2018, Marshall became an operating division of HH Health System, a community owned, regional healthcare system with operations in North Alabama and South Tennessee. Today, Marshall Medical has an operating budget of an over $165 million with over 200,000 annual patient encounters.
