It’s rare for a non-metro hospital to offer a dedicated pediatric hospitalist team. While most newborns are healthy, our in-hospital pediatric team is on-call 24/7 for those situations that require special diagnosis and treatment. With our newborn pediatric team, most cases can be addressed locally to avoid transfer to a neonatal ICU.
Our hospitalists team is led by board certified pediatric physicians, Dr. Michael Hallenbeck and Dr. Mark Addison. These physicians are supported by two highly experienced neonatal Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners, Shannon Cornelius and Nicole Lamkin. From delivery until your new arrival is ready to go home, you get the expertise and convenience offered by these specially-trained medical professionals.
An additional benefit of the Marshall Medical team is our family-oriented approach. Baby exams are conducted in patient rooms to enhance education and consultation with the mothers. Also, a close network with colleagues at other hospitals benefits moms and babies, along with the Marshall Medical approach of coordinating follow-up steps with area pediatricians to ensure continuity of care.

Pediatric Hospitalist Overview and Benefits

Mark Addison, MD
Dr. Mark Addison is Board Certified in Pediatrics. He is a graduate of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama, and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine/Pediatrics at Akron General Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio (now part of Cleveland Clinic).
Michael Hallenbeck, MD
Dr. Michael Hallenbeck is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He is a graduate of Long School of Medicine, University of Texas Health in San Antonio, and completed his Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, New York.
Shannon Cornelius, CRNP
Shannon Cornelius is a Board Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Samford University and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Nicole Lampkin, CRNP
Nicole Lampkin is a Board Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Florida Southwestern State College in Naples, Florida. She received her Master of Science in Nursing – Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.
