Three local graduates earn scholarships for volunteer work at hospital

It really pays to work as a junior volunteer at Marshall Medical Centers. Three hard-working local students have earned hospital scholarships to help cover the costs of college.

Marshall Medical North’s volunteer auxiliary awarded each graduate a $2,000 scholarship to reward their hard work and to encourage other students to apply to the junior volunteer program, said the group’s president.

“It has been several years since we have had active Junior Volunteers who have qualified for our scholarships,” said Auxiliary President Betty Hendrix. “We are so happy that we have three young women who have been extremely hard-working and eager to do an excellent job for us this year and thus have been an asset to our hospital, as well as to our community.”

The 2019-2020 scholarship recipients are:

• Trinity Perkins, a Guntersville High School graduate who has been accepted into Snead State Community College School of Nursing. Trinity volunteered for six months in the ER at Marshall North then at the Marshall Cancer Care Center.
• Marigrace Dunn, a Fairview High School graduate who has been accepted into Samford University School of Nursing. Marigrace volunteered for seven months at Marshall North in the dietician office and at Lakeside North.
• Aldonza Hernandez of Guntersville, a home-school student who plans to pursue a biology degree at Snead State Community College. Aldonza volunteered for more than a year at Marshall North’s education office and at the Wellness Center.

“The members of the Marshall North Auxiliary are excited to present these scholarships which will reward these young women as each of them plans a career in the medical field, not only for their dedication to our hospital, but for their academic excellence and community service as well,” Hendrix said. “It is our hope that by presenting these scholarships, other future Junior Volunteers will be encouraged to join with us, become active in our organization and decide to also pursue a career in the medical field.”Bottom of Form

Marshall Medical had to suspend all volunteer activities in March as a result of the coronavirus. Once volunteer services resume, applications will be accepted online and at both hospitals.
