Generosity of community appreciated by Marshall Medical’s Cancer Center

The kindness and generosity shown to the Marshall Cancer Care Center from the community is always touching. Sometimes it’s nothing short of amazing.

The kindness and generosity shown to the Marshall Cancer Care Center from the community is always touching. Sometimes it’s nothing short of amazing.

During one recent week, at least six individuals and groups delivered donations in support of the local efforts to treat cancer patients.

“It is unbelievable the donations that come through here,” said Pam Veal, patient navigator, who helps accept the flow of gifts and distributes them among patients. “I always say the Lord provides.”

Over just a few days in February the following was donated:

• The Arab Civitans dropped off their annual delivery of bags for patients. Each one contained a handmade port pillow and mastectomy pillow, a blanket, hand sanitizer, candy, stress ball, notebook, toothbrush, tissues, wipes, hard candy, a thermometer and lip balm.
• Union Chapel’s prayer shawl ministry contributed prayer shawls for patients, as they have ever since the Marshall Cancer Care Center opened in 2013.
• The Sand Mountain Cowboy Church gave crocheted hats.
• Guntersville First United Methodist Church provided snacks for the center’s staff, as well as for chemo patients.
• Gene Ponder shared unused breast forms purchased for his late wife, Robin Ponder.
• Linda May donated a wig and a check.

“Words cannot express how much we appreciate the kindness shown by our generous community,” said Traci Stewart, executive director of the Cancer Care Center. “Not only are the gifts useful to our patients, they also lift the spirits of everyone here. We’re so grateful for all the support.”
