WIVES’ AUXILIARY RAISES MONEY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS

Guntersville, Alabama – December 18, 2006– The Physicians’ Wives’ Auxiliary at Marshall Medical Center North was the sponsor of fundraiser held on Saturday, December 16th at the home of Dr. Robert and Ann Page. The fundraiser was held as a benefit for The Foundation for Marshall Medical Centers, and the monies raised will be used to provide scholarships for next year’s graduating high school seniors.

By soliciting donations from area businesses, members of the Wives’ Auxiliary were able to secure donations for a silent auction that included artwork, jewelry and gift certificates. The sale of these items at Saturday’s party resulted in a donation of more than $2500 to the Medical Centers’ Foundation. The donation has been earmarked to be used for scholarships for graduating high school seniors who plan to pursue careers in healthcare.

“We are so excited about the Foundation being the beneficiary of our fundraiser this year,” said Melika Nixon, president of the Wives’ Auxiliary at Marshall Medical Centers North. “We are eager to be a part of the work being done by the Foundation on behalf of our children in Marshall County,” said Nixon.

“Unlike many hospital foundations, whose focus is typically raising money for capital spending, the primary goal of The Foundation for Marshall Medical Centers is to enhance the educational experience of the children growing up in our community,” said Jeannie Wallace, the director of the Foundation. “One of the many advantages Marshall Medical has to offer over the hospitals in larger markets is the fact that the healthcare providers in our system are people from the community who you know and trust. We hope to retain that advantage by encouraging our youth who become healthcare providers to return to Marshall County after college.”
