2008 MARSHALL MEDICAL CENTERS’ SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
GUNTERSVILLE, ALABAMA - June 5, 2008- The Foundation for Marshall Medical Centers - in conjunction with Marshall Medical Centers - awarded 24 scholarships totaling $42,000 to area high school seniors who are planning to pursue a career in healthcare.
In order to qualify for consideration for one of these scholarships, students who applied presented their ACT scores and transcripts as evidence of their good-standing status in their high school class and wrote a short essay about why they were interested in pursing a career in health care.
From the slate of initial applicants, finalists were chosen and hosted at a Career Night at Marshall Medical Center South in early April. At the Career Night the students had an opportunity to interact with doctors, nurses and other clinicians from their respective fields of interest. Later in the month, the students were interviewed by a team made up of Foundation board members and other employees of the Medical Centers. The process culminated with the awarding of the scholarships on the various Awards Days throughout the county.
“We are excited about what the scholarship program can mean for the Medical Centers in the years to come. We are hopeful this program will be a catalyst for developing health care professionals who will one day return to work within the Marshall Health System. Perhaps the best part of this process, however, is feeling as if these scholarships are stepping stones to a better quality of life in our community by helping these deserving young men and women,” states Gary Gore, Marshall Medical Centers CEO.
“We are proud of these students and their accomplishment –and – could not be more pleased to have them represent the Medical Centers,” added Gore.
